The Tilden Tour

Writer's picture: deadheadcutflowersdeadheadcutflowers

The first "Tilden Tour" took place April 28, thanks to Cara Fitzgerald who graciously donated the use of her comfortable Transit van, with a new discovery made--courtesy of Layne Hamilton, on the right, who showed us the site of the old Tilden schoolhouse, just north of where Boone Creek crosses Crystal Springs Road. Playing the part of "schoolmarm" is Alan Hennebold, a Pingree native and returnee who, with Layne, provided extra and valued history to the tour.

Layne gifted us the photos below, taken in the Springfield area. This might be Boone Creek:

Left to Right: Bodie Watson, John Coumerilh, Jake Beard.

Others attending the tour: Beatrice Brailsford, Jim Elison, and Kathy Vitale. Missing from the photo is Kathy Daly and Jeriann Sabin.

The Big Fill, the Boone Creek Irrigation Dam, McTucker, Rufus Wright's cabin, Archie's Falls, the Springfield Hotel, Danilson's Creek, the original Springfield siding, and what remains of Sterling--a four hour ride with a lively, educated bunch. And Layne Hamilton, who knows the area's history about as well as anyone, told of the Morrisites in Riverton and showed us the old cement silos, a remarkable feat at the time.
